On the CD, the voice leading you through the relaxation gradually becomes softer and softer with the thinking I suppose that the listener would have drifted off to sleep by the time the voice became inaudible. But my husband found that he would strain to hear the voice as the volume became lower, which brought him out of the relaxed state. He tried it a few times, and it didn't work for him.
